Teach-in on the current situation of the universities in Rojava (Northern Syria) and the
potentials of solidarity
Like many of you, we’re following developments in Rojava/Northern and Eastern Syria. To better understand the situation and in response to the call for support and solidarity from faculty and students of the three universities in Rojava, we are organizing a teach-in and information event with representatives of faculty and students from the universities in Rojava on February 11 at 18:00 (CET) via Zoom.
The January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the self-proclaimed Syrian transitional government appears to have significantly affected the political situation. Negotiations between institutions in Rojava, including universities, and the central government are underway. However, sources indicate pressure to exclude certain topics from university curricula, including Jineology, Kurdish history, and the concept of a democratic nation.
The situation in Rojava, especially in Kobanê, is tense, as the city remains under siege and humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate. We invite you to join us to hear and learn with and from our colleagues in Rojava.
